Our Story
The Embassy opened its gates in Bayley Street, Alexandra in October 2018 with some pretty big ideals, and some ideas for a dedicated community space that did not rely on external funding - a true social enterprise. It became an incorporated association in 2019.
A space for community to connect, have a sense of belonging and foster community spirit.
The intention was not to simply replicate other spaces, but to take an innovative, warm approach to access and offer this opportunity to other groups with similar ideals.
We have introduced initiatives such as CommuniTea, Repair Cafe, community dinners, a thriving garden with Goodwill Garlic while all the time offering reasonably priced indoor and outdoor community gathering space.
Since Covid, special projects have blossomed, always in partnership with other organisations, building our supporter base through sharing and networking.
We remain a comfortable, welcoming, safe space for the exchange of ideas and promoting community capacity. We believe the community embrace this concept and see great value in what we do.
While we like to do things a little bit differently, we take our responsibility to our space, team and the community very seriously and will take this integrity forward as we grow.
Community involvement is key in our sustainability, whether this is by attending our events, hiring the space, making a financial contribution or donating your time, talent and skills. There are multiple touch points to contribute to making the Embassy a vibrant, welcoming and inclusive community space.
